Last West: Roadsongs for Dorothea Lange

Live Theatre Performance

An innovative, immersive theatre performance will premiere at the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art (SVMA) this November. Celebrating the life and haunting work of photographer Dorothea Lange, Last West: Roadsongs for Dorothea Lange projects Lange’s indelible images—both rarely seen and iconic—as the visual setting for five actors whose words vividly illustrate the remarkable relevance of Lange’s work today.

Marking the 90th anniversary of the Works Progress Administration (WPA), Last West uses Lange’s lens on America to help us wrestle with our history and face the challenging forces shaping our present. Written by Tess Taylor, directed by Ciera Eis, with video projections by Ryan Yu, Last West is a striking theatrical piece that expands the connections between art, witness, and repair.
