SVMA is hosting some of the country’s top scholars who investigate and write about African American art and culture today, for a public forum where they will discuss Raymond Saunders’ impact, and that of other contemporary Black artists, on American life and art history. Leading the discussion is Cheryl Finley, Ph.D. inaugural director, Atlanta University Center for Art History + Curatorial Studies Collective + Distinguished Visiting Professor, Spelman College. Finley is joined by Leigh Raiford, Ph.D., professor, African American Studies Department, University of California, Berkeley, Jacqueline Frances, Ph.D., chair, Graduate Visual and Critical Studies Program, California College of the Arts, and Bay Area artist Demetri Broxton, Senior Director of Education at Museum of the African Diaspora (MOAD).
