Art Night will feature a signature African Dawa cocktail. Art making tables will include beaded jewelry and shaker instruments themed to the Nick Brandt: Inherit the Dust exhibition. Onye and the Messengers will provide musical entertainment for the evening.
Onye and The Messengers is a Northern California based Afro World Beat Band inspired by renowned Nigerian master percussionist and performer Onye Onyemaechi. The band is a primal Afro Beat Band that finds its roots in the spirit of ancient Africa, re-creating the tribal world village celebration of body and soul. The band music is a combination of electrifying influences of African rhythms, funky blues and jazz, reggae, rock and world music. The rhythm of the music is heavenly polyrhythmic, and the vocals can range from traditional call-and-response, chanting styles and wailing melody lines associated with funk and soul music.
