Narsiso Martinez creates drawings and mixed media installations that depict multi-figure scenes set in agricultural landscapes, drawing from his own experience as a farmworker to highlight the laborers who sustain the nation’s food supply. Working in a style influenced by 1930s Social Realism and using discarded produce boxes as his canvas, Martinez makes visible the difficult conditions and overlooked humanity of farmworkers, many of whom are undocumented. After immigrating to the United States at age 20, he completed high school in 2006 and went on to earn a BFA (2012) and MFA (2018) in drawing and painting from California State University Long Beach, receiving the Dedalus Foundation MFA Fellowship in Painting and Sculpture. His work has been exhibited internationally and is held in the collections of institutions including the Hammer Museum, OCMA, Amon Carter Museum of American Art, Crocker Art Museum, and Santa Barbara Museum of Art. He lives and works in Long Beach, CA.
