Eye to Eyes presents photographic portraits by photographer Jock McDonald celebrating the people of Sonoma County. With a goal of capturing “1,000 Faces,” McDonald’s mobile studio has traveled throughout 2025 and 2026 to farmers markets, schools, community centers, local events, and other gathering places.
He has photographed community members from all walks of life— farmworkers, teachers, business owners, students, and many others. Each participant completed their portrait by contributing a written text of a memory, reflection, or hope. This collaborative process is rooted in lived experience and personal storytelling.
SVMA presents these portraits and reflections to highlight our shared community and humanity. The exhibition also features an interactive photo booth, and extending beyond the Museum walls, a large-scale outdoor projection onto the façade of Sonoma City Hall on Sonoma Plaza.
