JOB TITLE: Education and Public Programs Director

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

The Sonoma Valley Museum of Art seeks an innovative and bold Education and Public Programs Director to expand the education offerings and engage the community in the art and ideas of our times. He/she will design and implement public programs, events, exchanges and collaborations that serve the mission of the museum:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Education and Public Programs Director will possess a broad understanding of contemporary art and culture, have a proven track record in arts programming and hold the capacity to communicate complex ideas and issues in a positive, clear manner to a variety of people with diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. He/she will be responsible for managing the department’s budget, supporting grant-writing initiatives, scheduling, and staffing all programs. He/she will have an ability to work collaboratively in a demanding professional environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously. 

The Education and Public Programs Director will:

Coordinate the Art Rewards the Student Program

Conceptualize and implement programs for all ages that expand the exhibitions and special events

Coordinate the art history lecture series 

Implement a series of “Salons” that invite artists, members and patrons to exchange ideas about contemporary art

REQUIREMENTS:

BA Required. Excellent communication, writing, speaking, organizational and interpersonal skills. Bilingual. Knowledge of region and Sonoma Valley Unified School District helpful.
