Sonoma Valley Museum of Art presents:
![]() Andy Warhol, Campbell's Soup Can, 1961 | Art History Classes with Ann Wiklund (continuing this fall). Icons of Twentieth Century Art: Part II From Pop Art to Earthworks When Pop Art appeared on the American scene in the early 1960’s, Americans embraced the Coke bottles and comic book lookalikes with gusto. But the 60’s and 70’s brought much more—Earthworks, Feminist Art, Conceptual Art, and even Minimalism—works that the artist designed but often never touched. The first class of this three-part series will explore Pop Art and its ramifications. The second class will examine Minimalism and Conceptual Art. The third class will cover Earthworks and Feminist Art. Join the fun as you gain appreciation for this challenging era of American visual art. Session 1: Monday, October 19, 1-4 pm Pop Art versus Abstraction Session 2: Monday, November 16, 1-4 pm Minimalism and Conceptual Art Session 3: Monday, December 14, 1-4 pm Radical Alternatives: Feminism and Earthworks The Art History course is available only to SVMA members for $25. Art Across the Valley
An exclusive tour of participating artists' studios!
Saturday, October 24th
12:00 to 5:00 p.m.
We are pleased to have a fine group of artists taking part in this guided tour of Sonoma artists’ studios. Each is a finalist in our Biennial 2009 Art Competition and their works are on display in our gallery through November 29th.
Participating artists include:
Lori Goldman, an accomplished fiber artist who uses wool, cotton, twine, thread, buttons, and needles to create works that sync with nature. She will speak of her inspirations and creations.
Margaret Hatcher, who combines theater and print in which the costume, model, and backdrop create a visual story. Margaret will assemble a scenario and talk to us about her process.
Lin Lipetz, this year’s Sonoma Treasure! We will view her amazing intuitive paintings which convey the atmosphere and energy of air, earth, fire, and water by means of unnatural juxtapositions and combinations.
Tatiana McWethy, a prolific artist engaged in many forms of art. She will show us around her extensive gallery and talk about her journey and current works in progress.
Admission to this one-of-a-kind tour is just $15/person and is open to members and non-members alike! Spots are limited, so reserve online or give us a call at 707.939.7862 to secure your seat.
